Christopher Columbus is one of four Bronx New York City high schools participating in a Ninth Grade College Now pilot program. The introduction of new, more demanding requirements for high school graduation and the adoption by CUNY of higher admissions standards, have made the academic achievement of high school students the most pressing common concern of the University system and the New York City Board of Education. One hundred ninth graders are enrolled in the CCHS College Now program. Working with these youngsters is a team comprised of choice Columbus faculty in collaboration with dedicated Lehman College professors. (1) To improve high school students' ability to meet graduation requirements and to be prepared for college; (2) To facilitate students' ability to make a seamless transition from high school to college; (3) To increase the likelihood that students enroll at and graduate from CUNY colleges.
